October 4th 2017

A quick update on our market whereabouts over the next few weeks:  -  Rhiwbina on Friday, Usk, Cowbridge and Tonteg on Saturday and Riverside on Sunday with the usual range of meat to sell.  Will bring more pot roast joints now as it is getting much colder with the first frost forecast ...

Seems strange to talk about frost when we have only just finished the 2017 harvest !!  At last, all is safely gathered in; the turnips sown and the forage rye will be planted in the next day or so.  This hardy plant will tolerate the colder weather and give us good early grass next spring.

The local sheep sales are done and dusted.  The ewe sale was good, the ram sale disappointing - we still have some yearling rams looking for a home.   The rams have been with the early lambing ewes for a few weeks now and have hopefully done their job.   Time will tell  .......

The cows are enjoying the autumn flush of grass before we have to think of winter housing and bales of hay.  Hopefully that is a way off yet - this drier spell of weather is very welcome.
