17th December 2014

Hello all

It's a busy weekend ahead and I, for one, will be glad when it's over. The best thing about the Christmas period is the time I get after all the stressing and slog to do some of the things I haven't had time to do for ages ! So it's the last market weekend of the year - Rhiwbina on Friday morning, Usk on Sat, Porthcawl on Sat (Graham is doing this one) and Riverside on Sunday. The usual range of beef, lamb, mutton, pork and chickens as well as pies and faggots. Will make more of the beef and stilton - which is actually organic Perl las - they seemed to go down well last week.

Since last time we have had another litter of piglets - Bron had 13 lovely even sized piglets who popped out really quickly and almost caught Graham napping ! We have scanned the early lambing ewes - lots of lambs there and even a set of quads ! We have had quads once before but the 4th lamb was too small to survive. "Babes" is an old pet lamb with a dreadful track record for producing a happy thriving crop of lambs. Last year we nursed her from the brink - she was scanned for triplets but only managed to deliver one live lamb. How on earth she will cope with four I don't know - the TLC has started as of last night ! We put her into the shed out of the rain - of course she doesn't know she is expecting quads and wondered what all the fuss is about !

The wind turbine is up but not quite running - there is a problem with the earth. A deep trench has been dug across my garden - it wasn't a wonderful garden before but now ......... John and reinstatement are not words that go together ! Anyway, it wasn't enough so more trenching today - oh dear .... (perhaps that's one of the things I will get around to after Christmas - gardening ......) I will put some pictures of the turbine on facebook later

A very Merry Christmas to you all from the team at Penrhiw.
